As an ex...my two cents (pence in sterling) worth...<br />As an ex boat builder and keen sailor I would never dream of going to sea in such twisted vessels. Having seen the construction of these boats closely they could have small natural twist but this is extreme. After chatting with my wife (Paul's daughter) we agree that this is most likely a 'favourite' composition that the brothers may have recreated several times. It's also likely that, as artists, they saw beauty both in the sweeping lines up to the bow and also wanted to show the working hull interior as well - artistic licence. They are truly excellent paintings capturing the fisher folks lives in one great scene. Great colours too and, as you say Mr Goldfinch, it is fabulous to see and compare the two pictures together.
