Admirer of Paul Raj Paintings

My photo
Paul was born in Kodaikanal on 22 September 1914 and died on 2 October 1979. G D Arulraj was born in 1925 and died in June 1972 while visiting India. Arul worked at Laguna Beach in the 60's and 1970's. G D Thyagaraj might have been born in 1922 and I am told that he probably died sometime before 1981. He moved to northern India as a young man. I lived in India as a child and spent a lot of time in Calcutta. My mother purchased several paintings directly from Paul Raj while living in Madras and this got me interested in his works. I then discovered he had two brothers Arul Raj and Thyaga Raj who were both fantastic artists. I could not find much information on the internet so decided to set up my own blog. Subsequently a Facebook tribute site has also been created to the memory of the three brothers. Contact me at: rajbrothers@hotmail.co.uk

G D Thyaga Raj - Street Scene

This is a nice street scene by G D Thyagaraj, some workers have lit a fire and are preparing a meal near their carts.
I think the colours are very good and do not seem to have faded with time. An example of his signature follows.

G D Paulraj - Oxen Bazar

It is getting hard to remember which paintings I have posted over the last 10 months, I do not think I have added this one before, but it is really good so no harm done if you have seen it before.
I think this is really super painting of what appears to be a huge cattle sale and the cows in the foreground are under the tree for shade.  Hope you like it, did any one look at the Thyaga raj at the Jon Berg Fine Arts site which showed the Gateway to India, I would be interested in anyones comments? Thanks Goldfinch

A D ThyagaRaj - Gateway to India

Last year I came across a painting for sale in California, it is described as being by an artist called A D Thyaga Raj, the painting is of the Gateway to India in Bombay. You can see a number of photos of the painting at the following website along with a photo of the artist's signature. The seller a Jon Berg Fine Arts in California is asking $250 USD, the painting is in poor condition. It is hard to say whether this might in fact be by G D Thyagaraj? I would be interested to see what anyone else might think of the painting.  You can find the painting at Jon Berg Fine Arts

I do not think it is right to add a posting without a photograph so today I am adding a photo of a collection of Indian figures made out of clay.
I can remember buying some figures like these back in the 1960' and 1970's I am sure my sister had the snake charmer, the one in the photo seems to have lost his flute.  Hope you like it.

G D Paulraj - Through The Trees

Today I am posting a painting by G D Paulraj which I am calling 'Through the Trees" it shows a bullock cart convoy passing close to a very large Banyan Tree.
I was sent a photograph of this painting by my friend Kashinath.  I like this painting and feel it is quite a bold dramatic painting.  Hope you like this one.
I have had to change the way comments can be made to my blog due to increasing numbers of inappropriate comments from spam sites.  Hope this does not put people of from making comments, I now have to approve all comments. Many thanks, Goldfinch

G D Paulraj - Ploughing

This painting by G D Paulraj sold on Ebay an  year or so ago.  It seems to be either a work in progress or has faded due to too much exposure to sunlight.
I suspect it has faded as the signature seems to be correct.

G D Thyagaraj - Street Scene

Just came across this painting by Thyagaraj that sold on Ebay during July for £165.00.
It is not one of his best, what I mean by that is that the people do not look friendly. It is hard to know when he painted this one, I would love to be able to find out if it was an early painting or a later one.
