Admirer of Paul Raj Paintings

My photo
Paul was born in Kodaikanal on 22 September 1914 and died on 2 October 1979. G D Arulraj was born in 1925 and died in June 1972 while visiting India. Arul worked at Laguna Beach in the 60's and 1970's. G D Thyagaraj might have been born in 1922 and I am told that he probably died sometime before 1981. He moved to northern India as a young man. I lived in India as a child and spent a lot of time in Calcutta. My mother purchased several paintings directly from Paul Raj while living in Madras and this got me interested in his works. I then discovered he had two brothers Arul Raj and Thyaga Raj who were both fantastic artists. I could not find much information on the internet so decided to set up my own blog. Subsequently a Facebook tribute site has also been created to the memory of the three brothers. Contact me at: rajbrothers@hotmail.co.uk

G D Thyagaraj - Winter Morning

Painting provided by my friend Kashinath, it is by G D Thyagaraj called 'Winter Morning'.  It is a loverly bright painting and can cheer you up.  We are having very dull gloomy grey days in the UK at the moment.  The snow has melted and everything is dirty under the snow.  We will need some rain to clean the paths.
I hope you like this one, I have another to add which I will do in a few days time once we get into 2011.  I will take the opportunity to wish every one who has visited the blog this year a very Happy New Year for 2011.  I hope I can keep adding more paintings but they are getting harder to find.

G D Paulraj - Feeding The Bulls

This is a painting by G D Paulraj which sold at auction in the USA on 4 December 2010 it sold for $325 around £217.  I think it is the best painting I have seen sell at an auction this year by Paulraj.
I now wish I have bid 0n this one I like it a lot.  A second painting by Paulraj sold at the same auction , I will post that in a few days time, but this one is still my favourite of the two.  Hope you like it.

G D Paulraj - Water Carriers (in Oil Paint)

I thought I had added this painting previously but looking through the index I have not found it.  Sorry if you have seen it before.  It is a street scene of several women carrying water pots.  What is unusual is that it is an oil painting.
This was the first painting I had every seen by Paulraj using oils.  I have since seen several others.  I prefer his water colours.  However, this is an interesting painting especially as it is rarer.

G D Thyagaraj - Boat with Sail

I was contacted this week by Shawn who has sent me a photo of a painting he purchased directly from Thyagaraj in the early 1960's when he has living in Delhi, when he was a young boy
Shawn could you send me a higher quality photo so I can add that in place of this one?  His brother owns a couple and he is going to try and see if he can get photos of those as well.  Many thanks Shawn, much appreciated.  It looks a great painting.

Movie - Meeting an elephant on the way to Agra.

I am having a go at adding a small video file to my blog.  Last time I tried I failed, either it was too large a file size or of the wrong format.  It was taken around 1968 and is only of a very low quality.  That is me on the elephant. My family was driving to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and we came across a man riding his elephant on the way to a wedding.  You can see a lorry go thundering past me at one point.  Eventually we get to see the Taj Mahal. Hope you like it.

Photos from 1962 - Taken from a Cine Film

I have managed to capture several frames from an 8mm cine film.  Unfortunately the quality is low with the film size being so small, but they might be interesting.
