Admirer of Paul Raj Paintings

My photo
Paul was born in Kodaikanal on 22 September 1914 and died on 2 October 1979. G D Arulraj was born in 1925 and died in June 1972 while visiting India. Arul worked at Laguna Beach in the 60's and 1970's. G D Thyagaraj might have been born in 1922 and I am told that he probably died sometime before 1981. He moved to northern India as a young man. I lived in India as a child and spent a lot of time in Calcutta. My mother purchased several paintings directly from Paul Raj while living in Madras and this got me interested in his works. I then discovered he had two brothers Arul Raj and Thyaga Raj who were both fantastic artists. I could not find much information on the internet so decided to set up my own blog. Subsequently a Facebook tribute site has also been created to the memory of the three brothers. Contact me at: rajbrothers@hotmail.co.uk

G D Paulraj - To The Bazaar

Another find by my friend Kashinath, this one appeals to me in looks fund with the little boy being carried on his father's shoulders.
It is a nice colourful watercolour, with a selection of big trees which it is clear he must have enjoyed painting them.

G D Paulraj - Stormy Day

Another Paulraj painting sent to me by my friend Kashinath.  It is a really stormy day.  I am now wondering if I have posted this one before?  I think it might be the same title but by Thyagaraj.

G D Paulraj - Taj Mahal

My friend Kashinath has sent me a photo of this painting by G D Paulraj, it seems to be showing the TajMahal in Agra.  It seems to be a little unusual for Paul to paint a real place, most paintings appear to be imaginary or maybe slightly based on real scenes.
It certainly is a very bright painting, the minarets seem a little skinny to me but it captures the scene.  I have previously added some photos of the Taj captured from a Cine film.  I have added another family photo taken in front of the Taj taken around 1972.  I am the young man on the left.

Lal Mabon Ghose - Boatman - 1912

This is a painting my Lal Mabon Ghose showing a boatman, his signature is shown in full.  In the past his paintings have only shown his initials.
The painting is in colour and others I have seen are in black and white.  The painting is also dated as 1912.  Can anyone confirm where he was from?  Would it be Bengal or some other place?

G D Thyagaraj - Stormy Day

This is a watercolour by G D Thyagaraj of a wild stormy day.  The trees can be seen really blowing in the wind.
It was up for sale on Ebay several years ago, I cannot remember what it sold for.

G D Thyagaraj - Boats

I found this painting by G D Thyagaraj sold at an auction in the UK, unfortunately it is only a low quality image so it is hard to tell how good a painting it might be.
Still an interesting painting, the boatman in the foreground looks like he might be about to fall over the side of the boat.
