Admirer of Paul Raj Paintings

My photo
Paul was born in Kodaikanal on 22 September 1914 and died on 2 October 1979. G D Arulraj was born in 1925 and died in June 1972 while visiting India. Arul worked at Laguna Beach in the 60's and 1970's. G D Thyagaraj might have been born in 1922 and I am told that he probably died sometime before 1981. He moved to northern India as a young man. I lived in India as a child and spent a lot of time in Calcutta. My mother purchased several paintings directly from Paul Raj while living in Madras and this got me interested in his works. I then discovered he had two brothers Arul Raj and Thyaga Raj who were both fantastic artists. I could not find much information on the internet so decided to set up my own blog. Subsequently a Facebook tribute site has also been created to the memory of the three brothers. Contact me at:

Photo of Arulraj and Paulraj

Today I am adding a film frame that I have captured from Arulraj's film which I think shows Arulraj drawing and his older brother PaurRaj watching and giving comment.  Hope you like it.

G D Paulraj - The River

This is a very bright painting by G D Paulraj of several boats transporting goods down a river.
I had thought at first they might be fishing boats, but clearly the boat in the foreground has a heap of boxes stacked on the deck of the boat.

G D Thyagaraj - City Gates and the Bazaar

Today I a posting a water colour by G D Thyagaraj of some large city gates with a bazaar taking place outside the gates.
Does anyone recognise which city this might be?  Or could it be a creation in the artist's own mind?

G D Thyagaraj - Busy Street Scene

Today I am posting a water colour by Thyagaraj of a Busy Street Scene probably based on where he was living at the time which was Jaipur as an address is shown on the reverse of the painting.
A signature is shown in the bottom left hand corner and it is more capitals than in some of his paintings.
The reverse has an address in Jaipur, it would be great if we could track down some family members of Thyagaraj as it seems he lost touch with his wider family when he moved to northern India.
