G D Paulraj - Sorting the Catch

Painting by G D Paulraj recently added to the Raj Brothers Facebook site depicting some fishermen sorting through their catch.  The pointed hats caught my eye as I have a woven palm frond hat which I got from Puri in India in 1967.

It is a nice painting with the steely grey sky and greeny blue sea with some colour from the ladies clothes.

The hat is not identical to that worn by the men in the painting, their hats seem to have a wide rim.  My hat was in the attic and the palm fronds are still remarkably supple after 43 years.

Riding on an Elephant on the Road to Agra 1967

Managed to grab a frame from a cine film from 1967 it shows me riding on an elephant on the road to Agra taken around 1967.  We were driving from Delhi (I think) to Agra and we passed a man taking his elephant to a wedding and we stopped and asked if I could have a ride.  On the cine you can see lorries driving past as I am sitting on the elephant.  Hope you like it.

G D Paulraj - Mahabalipuram

This is a great scene by Paul Raj sent to my by my friend Kashinath who is a great artist as well.  The scene of the temples at Mahabalipuram in Southern India.  I have found shell I purchased back in 1962 when I was a young boy, the shell has the name and date carved on it.

I think you can see one of the seven pagodas in the back ground down on the beach.  I have an old cine film taken in 1962.  I will try and convert it and see if I can add it too the blog.  A photo of the shell follows.

G D Paulraj - Bathing in the Stream

Currently for sale in the USA a painting by G D Paulraj of people bathing in a stream.

He has captured the man's cloth which he seems to be drying in the breeze.

100th Posting!!!!! G D Thyagaraj - Road Scene

Today to celebrate my 100th posting to the blog I am adding a painting by G D Thyagaraj of a cart convoy stopped at the side of the road.

The drivers are sitting around a fire with smoke billowing into the trees.  There are a lot of trees in this painting.

G D Paulraj and also G D Thyagaraj - Boats on the Beach

My friend Kashinath has sent me this photo of a painting by G D Paulraj of Boats on the beach.  It seem to be the same painting as done by his brother Thyagaraj.  It is unclear whether the were sat next to each other painting the same scene or has one copied a composition done by the other.

I think this is a great painting and I prefer it to that done by his brother Thyagaraj. However I still like Thyaga's painting very much as well. I will upload the other painting again so they can be easily compared.

It is really fascinating to see the two paintings together like this.  I think this might be my 99th posting on the blog in just over 12 months.  I have been pleased with the collection of paintings I have been able to show and hopefully have helped increase the amount of information available on these three very talented brothers.
