This is a painting by G D Thyagaraj which is familiar yet different. Clearly Thyaga painted it several times but with different carts going through it. This ones shows some carts being pulled by cows.
You can see three gates in total and a cart convoy leaving the city.
Hi there, I have two G D Thyagaraj water colours that belonged to my parents in the 60's in Calcutta. Both the paintings are very similar in style to the one you show here. I have always wondered where they were painted and vaguely recollect being told Lucknow.
ReplyDeleteHello Cyrus. My family also lived in Calcutta in the 1960s maybe our paths crossed at some point? I understand that Thyagaraj lived in Jaipur but clearly he did move around and get inspiration from other cities in India as well. Is there any chance of you emailing me some photos of your paintings so I can add them to the blog as well?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I didn't see your response till now. I will certainly send you some photographs of the paintings as soon as I can.
