Paul was born in Kodaikanal on 22 September 1914 and died on 2 October 1979. G D Arulraj was born in 1925 and died in June 1972 while visiting India. Arul worked at Laguna Beach in the 60's and 1970's. G D Thyagaraj might have been born in 1922 and I am told that he probably died sometime before 1981. He moved to northern India as a young man. I lived in India as a child and spent a lot of time in Calcutta. My mother purchased several paintings directly from Paul Raj while living in Madras and this got me interested in his works. I then discovered he had two brothers Arul Raj and Thyaga Raj who were both fantastic artists. I could not find much information on the internet so decided to set up my own blog. Another Paul Raj

I came across this painting which is attributed to G D Paul Raj but the signature is not legible so it could be one of his but I am unsure.  I wondered if it might be by his wife Pankajam PaulRaj.  It is a slightly different style to most of the others I have seen so far.
I have rescued another cine clip of some women working in the paddy fields it was taken at the same time as the last one.  It looks very hard work up to your ankles in muddy water and bent double as well.
Finally a view of the Taj Mahal taken from the side again this is a clip from one of the family cine films.  I think the blue sky frames the dome very well.

    I agree! It doesn't look like Paulraj's.
    The frame capturing the paddy field workers is good.It could become a nice painting:)Scenes like this exist here even today.

    It might be a 'collaborative' work. Sometimes Pankajam would do some of a painting and PaulRaj would help her with parts. The women don't seem like GD's work to me but then Pankajam would probably have 'finshed' them more. It might also be worth keeping in mind that people 'copied' PaulRaj - even the signature. Apparently he was fairly philosphical about it.

    Update... Leuba Paulraj says it probably is a GD Paulraj and was probably done for a magazine illustration or cover
